Saturdays in November “Pottery in Prehistory

  • Have you ever wondered how ceramic vessels were created in prehistory? In this workshop, you can make and design your own piece from scratch.

Sundays in November “The Silenced Half

  • Reflect on the representations of women in Prehistory and in archaeology.

Saturdays in December “So Many Jewels!

  • Design and create your own metallic jewelry inspired by fascinating prehistoric pieces.

Sundays in December “Past Prints

  • Now that Christmas is approaching, create a postcard using stamps inspired by petroglyphs and small prehistoric idols.

Symbols on the Rocks

In this workshop, we will review what petroglyphs are and discover how to identify the different motifs carved into the stones: horses, deer, boats, swords, circles, dots, and more. Additionally, students will be able to produce their own petroglyphs on paper.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn about Rock Art and the motifs carved into petroglyphs.

  • Discover the artistic diversity of petroglyphs: both geometric and figurative.

  • Individually produce and compose a rock art motif.

  • Develop creativity and manual dexterity.

Beads for the Afterlife

This workshop begins at the CIDAR, where we will visit the replica of a cist and the grave goods from the Chousa Nova burial mound (Silleda). Through these, we will learn more about ancient funerary contexts. Afterwards, students will put their acquired knowledge to the test by completing activity sheets and will create a "prehistoric" necklace inspired by the one found at Chousa Nova.

Learning Objectives:

  • Reflect on the importance of the funerary sphere in prehistoric human communities.

  • Understand the ways of life during the Bronze Age through a visit to the exhibition area.

  • Learn about trade concepts based on the exchange of materials in Prehistory.

In Search of Fire

The discovery of fire and its 'domestication' completely changed the lives of our ancestors. It was a source of light and warmth, a symbol of protection, and a bond that strengthened social relationships; it allowed for cooking food and transforming materials to produce better tools. However, in those times, obtaining fire was not easy, so keeping it alive was a vital task. In this demonstration, we will show different techniques used in Prehistory to start a fire.

In this workshop, students will understand the importance of graphic, plastic, and visual language as a means of expression in Prehistory. They will explore various archaeological replicas and ultimately experience firsthand the diverse creative processes of Prehistory by finger painting on a paper mural.

  • Acquire knowledge about the creation of pigments in Prehistory.

  • Learn about the basic tools used to create paintings in Prehistoric times.

  • Produce, design, and compose, either individually or as a group, the stages of creating and executing a mural decoration.

An activity that, along with other technical innovations of farming and livestock societies, changed the course of history. Additionally, students will learn some of the techniques used in the making and decoration of typical Bronze Age pieces.

This activity showcases the daily work of archaeologists in recording and documenting rock art in Galicia, offering a hands-on introduction to fieldwork in this discipline. Participants will create several tracings using various techniques, based on the petroglyph replicas found within the archaeological area.

  • Acquire specific terminology.

  • Understand, respect, and value the documentation and conservation of Rock Art.

The Deer Scavenger Hunt

This activity will allow students to expand and consolidate the knowledge acquired during their visit to the Park. By following a series of questions and clues, they will explore the Archaeological Area, visiting different zones. This itinerary also offers the chance to observe the PAAR landscape, deepening their understanding of the environment and the natural context that gives meaning to the carvings.

  • Expand knowledge of the petroglyphs within the Archaeological Area.

  • Observe and discover the Park's natural surroundings.
